FAQS

What is Triathlon?

Triathlon is a multisport race. You must swim, cycle and run (in that order) before finishing the race.

What are the distances?

These are the typical event distances:

Sprint: 400 metres (pool)/750 metres (open water) swim, 20-25km cycle, 5km run.

Standard: 1500m swim, 40km cycle, 10km run.

Middle/half Ironman: 1900m swim, 90km cycle, 21km run.

Long/Ironman: 3800m swim, 180km cycle, 42km run.

Do I have to be a triathlete to join the club?

No, a number of our members don’t take part in triathlons. Some like to train with other people to keep fit or just want to feel part of a club. There is no requirement to take part in all three disciplines.

Do I have to be a certain ability to join?

Our sessions cater for all levels of ability. We have a wide range of abilities within the club, ranging from complete beginners to experienced Ironman and GB athletes. You will need to be able to swim 100 metres (4 lengths) unaided for our swim sessions.

Can I try out a session before joining?

Yes, we allow non members to try out a couple of sessions before you join the club. Contact our club secretary ([email protected]) for more information. Or you can jump straight in and become a member here: www.membermojo.co.uk/bassetlawtriclub

How much is club membership?

£24 per year.

Do you have a junior section?

Unfortunately, we are not currently able to support a junior section. Membership is 18+.

What training sessions do you hold?

Follow this link to see our training schedule: www.bassetlawtriclub.co.uk/training

Do you hold any open waters sessions?

No, but many of our members swim at local open water locations such as Thrybergh Country Park and Activities Away.

Where are your sessions based?

The majority of our sessions are at Worksop Leisure Centre. In the summer we head to Clumber Park for bike/run sessions.

How can I order club kit?

We typically have two kit order windows a year with our kit supplier Champion System. Our kit secretary also holds a small stock of BTC tri suits.

Do I need a fancy bike?

No, as long as your bike is well maintained and has working brakes, you can have a basket on the front if you wish.
