The Lincolnshire Edge Triathlon Cadney Reservoir – July 2017

July 9th 2017

The Lincolnshire Edge Triathlon Cadney Reservoir North Lincolnshire 9th July 2017 Standard and
sprint distance Open water swim in Anglian waters Cadney Reservoir.
Overall time 2hrs 38mins 13secs Overall finishing position 22 out of 63 Good local event with a nice
friendly atmosphere.
The swim was 2 laps of the reservoir which was around 20c on the day which made wetsuits
optional, I chose to wear mine as did the majority of the other competitors. The swim was good, no
weed and the yellow bouys were good for sighting. I was out of the swim in 32.34 which I was really
pleased with, this being the poorest of 3 disciplines for me.
Into T1 it was a bit of a struggle removing the wetsuit in a rush over my timing chip on my ankle, but
after a little persuasion it was off and then out onto the bike course.
The bike course was well marked out of transition and for the entire course, the marshals were all
very good and well positioned. The route its self was good, probably best described as undulating
with no big accents. It consisted of 2 laps of part of the route before returning in to transition. The
road surface was also pretty good and there was very little traffic apart from a tractor that i was
stuck behind coming into one of the villages !!. My bike time was 1:08:42 which i was very pleased
with.
Back into T2 to change over for the run which was pretty good, well marked out again and plenty of
marshals on hand.
The run consisted of running three quarters of the way around the reservoir and then back and past
transition and out onto the quiet lane to a turning point, this section on the lane was to be run
twice. The run section around the reservoir was on grass, which in places had ruts and the grass had
been recently cut meaning extra care was required. Out onto the lane it was a flat tarmac surface in
good condition, a water station situated on the road side.
The run went reasonably well although I did slow more than I had anticipated, partly due to the sun
coming out and the temperature reaching the low 20c's !
I finished the run in 53:37. Overall I enjoyed the event for my first standard distance triathlon, plenty
of things for me to work on now for my next event.
