The 21 st May the day for our first middle distance triathlon. Arriving at Holme Pierrepont at 5:00 am it was time to set
things up at transition and get ready for the race. Matan was in wave 1 at 6:15 and Yannie started in wave 4 at 7:00.
The race started with the swim 1lap of the rowing lake. Setting of in 4 waves of 350 participants in each. Wave 4 was
only women and it took me (Yannie) about 100 metres before I settled in to my stroke. The water was just over 14
degrees and didn’t feel as cold as expected.
Both Matan and I had a good swim and after going through transition one we started on the bike leg. We left the
venue behind heading out in the lovely country side in Nottinghamshire going through Lowdham, Southwell, Car
Colston, Hawksworth and Orston before heading back through Radcliff on Trent to Holme Pierrepont. After spending
about 3 ½ hours on the bike we went in to transition 2 to get ready for probably the hardest part of the race, a half
The run was a 2-lap course set out along the bank of the River Trent up to the Lady Bay Bridge where we turned
around heading back to the lake at Holme Pierrepont where went around the lake before setting of on the second
We couldn’t have been luckier with the weather with light winds and sunshine. Though many people did catch the
sun a bit too well leading to some funny tan lines.
The Outlaw Half Nottingham was a great experience. We had set ourselves target for each part of the race and we
both stayed well under those times. Coming over the finish line was a fantastic achievement and we could not have
done this without the help and support of our coaches and other members of the Bassetlaw Triathlon Club. Many
had come out to support all those racing that day.
Although the race was mentally and physically tough, the atmosphere created by the race organisers gave us a real
boost and both of us are talking already about doing it again.
