17th September 2017 Thorpe Theme Park London

A cold start to the day after an overnight ground frost and a little fog. I was thankful that the race organisers had changed the time by an hour, instead of starting at 7 the first wave went off at just after 8.

Helen and I were in the same wave ready to start the race at 8:45

We started the triathlon with a 750-metre open water swim and a very cold swim it was with water temperature just about 14 degrees and took your breath away.

From there on following a long run through transition it was off on our bikes. My 1st transition was slow as my feet and hands were so cold that I struggled to get my wet suit off and bike shoes on.

The bike route was advertised as a flat and fast course and went out on to the local busy roads with quiet fast traffic and 4 roundabouts to negotiate. This was not the best rides I have done and was a little disappointed.

After racking my bike it was time for the 5 km run a 2 lap run course through the theme park. It was a flat and fast course with the background noise of all the rides and families enjoying a day out. Although I was disappointed with my overall result 1:34:38 I was really happy with my personal best 5km run which I did under 28 minutes. Yannie
